Established by two school friends Wim De Veirman and Jan Helskens, with a vision to create a healthy alternative after discovering that traditional non-stick cookware uses polymer based substances (PFAS) in the manufacturing process of the coating and that, if overheated, toxins could be released into the environment. Following significant research, a ceramic coating – Thermolon – was developed with sufficient non-stick and abrasion resistance properties.
GreenPan’s manufacturing process
The main material of GreenPan’s Thermolon ceramic coating is a sand derivative. This sand derivative is turned into a sprayable solution using a Sol-Gel procedure. The solution is then sprayed onto the frying pan body before being cured in an oven – with no need for additional additives such as PFAS, in the manufacturing process. Compared to traditional non-stick coatings, this process also produces 60% less CO2 emissions.
